For a newly built home in Canton, Georgia, Aurora supplied and professionally installed a KE Domina Retractable Awning over the poolside bar and outdoor kitchen — all-day shade for the cook and the guests, without closing off the conversation between them.
After enclosing their poolside living area with MagnaTrack™ clear vinyl Retractable Screens, the homeowners built an outdoor kitchen with a bar facing the pool. The kitchen had a roof, but the sun hit straight across the counter where they cook and where guests sit.
Their first idea was a Retractable Screen between the kitchen and the bar. It would have blocked the sun — but it would also have put a wall between the person cooking and everyone at the bar.
During the on-site visit, our team recommended a different solution: a KE Domina Retractable Awning extending over the bar. Instead of closing the opening, the awning shades it from above, so the kitchen and the bar stay open to each other.
The KE Domina is a full-cassette motorized awning with Italian engineering. When retracted, the fabric and folding arms close into an aluminum housing, protected and out of sight. Its long projection reaches across the seating area, and the fabric was chosen in a light color that matches the architecture of the home.
The kitchen is now usable from morning to late afternoon without direct sun on the counter. Guests at the bar stay in the shade while they enjoy a margarita, and the person cooking stays part of the conversation.
With the poolside living area enclosed in clear vinyl and the bar shaded by the KE Domina, the whole outdoor space is ready for entertaining.

Learn how a KE Domina Retractable Awning can shade an outdoor kitchen and bar while keeping the space open, connected and ready for entertaining.
It depends on what you need. A Retractable Screen closes the opening, which is best for wind, rain, insects and privacy. A Retractable Awning shades from above and keeps the opening clear, which is ideal for kitchens and bars where you want to keep the view and the conversation. Our team recommends the right option after visiting your space.
A KE Domina Retractable Awning can be custom-made up to 20 feet wide with a projection of up to 11 feet 9 inches. Final dimensions depend on the mounting location, the structure and the area you want to shade. During a free on-site consultation, Aurora measures the space and confirms the size that covers your seating area.
Yes. Planning a Retractable Awning or Retractable Screens during construction lets mounting points, motor power and finishes be integrated from the start.
